The Longmont Area Coalition for Contemplative Practices
Wake Up! In The Park Event

Bill Lyford leads Shambhala meditation at the event

On Saturday, July 28, from 10 AM to 3 PM at Kanemoto Park in Longmont, the Longmont Area Coalition for Contemplative Practices hosted Wake Up! In The Park. This event was attended by about 100 people, mostly from Longmont.

The event started with a circle of about 35 people who spoke their names and told us what benefit they got from meditation/contemplation. This was followed by many 20-minute presentations every half-hour, with as many as 3 presentations happening simultaneously. The presentations were on yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, sitting and walking meditation, centering prayer, transmission meditation, drumming and more. There was even a music-making activity for children. All together, there were representatives of 13 different meditation/contemplation groups who gave presentations.

The day ended after the drumming with a circle of about 50 people who spoke their names and said one word about their impressions of the event.

The overall impression of the event for those of us who are members of the LACCP was that it was a great success as our introduction to the city of Longmont. Visitors to the event were overwhelmingly positive about it.

At this time it is likely that the LACCP will sponsor a similar event next year.
